The exhibition was organized in the limits of the international project of the Museum "Dialogue through culture" with assistance of the Embassy of Sweden in Kazakhstan.
In 2016, the people of Kazakhstan, along with the 25th anniversary of independence celebrate another important anniversary, - 25 years since the President of Kazakh SSR N.A. Nazarbayev signed the Decree No. 409 on "The closure of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site," on August 29, 1991. The President of Kazakhstan made a very responsible and courageous decision to close the nuclear site in that difficult time. It played a main role in the political strategy of Kazakhstan. Sweden highly appreciates the initiatives of Kazakhstan directed to nuclear disarmament. For their part they apply the active actions in the same area for many years.
The exhibition "Crime scenes: the first lightning" represented a series of the works dedicated to nuclear tests and consequences of those tests for mankind and the environment. The artist Tove Krabo presented a series of water colour/ink and acrylic paintings depicting eerie landscapes from different nuclear disaster sites. Those works were like answer to nowadays tragedies. The artist pays our attention to the new technogenic accidents. They took place in the world every day. One of the striking examples is nuclear tests in Semipalatinsk. “The first lightning” is a codename used in 1949. The Soviet regime started the atomic tests in Semipalatinsk without any evacuation of people nearby. As a result a terrible impact was made on the locals.
Tove Krabo works in different forms of art: film, writing and painting. She uses her cinema experience and methods in art, where every film is a separate project, and an art is orientated to a text (scenario, history).
